Vaping and Behavioral Health: Current Trends, Treatment and Counseling Options

Abstract: This course provides information about Vaping and ENDS Use. Highlights include current public health trends, behavioral patterns of use, treatment options and therapy.

 

Speaker: Mary Martinasek, PhD, MPH, RRT

 

Speaker Information: Dr. Martinasek is a Professor and Director of Health Sciences at the University of Tampa. Her research is focused on asthma, vaping, inhalational marijuana and waterpipe tobacco (hookah smoking). Dr. Martinasek is a certified asthma educator, certified health education specialist, and a registered respiratory therapist.

Dr. Mary Martinasek is an Assistant Professor with the University of South Florida, College of Public Health. Dr. Martinasek specializes in public health research on the negative health outcomes of hookah and waterpipe tobacco.

1. Describe vaping, ENDS and other nicotine delivery devices and the negative health effects

2. Discuss trends in alternative nicotine intake, including behavioral health indications.

3. List all treatment options for nicotine addiction.

4. Incorporate motivational interviewing techniques in behavioral counseling for cessation.
